POLO – The City of Polo has proposed updates to its solid waste and recycling rates, effective September 1, 2025, following a contract with Midwest Disposal that runs through August 2027. The new ordinance, first read on Monday, adjusts monthly fees for residential and commercial garbage collection, including toter and dumpster services. Churches and parsonages will be billed based on usage, and proration is allowed for vacant properties if the City Clerk is notified in advance. In a separate ordinance, the City also added a new section to its code allowing it to charge a 35% collection fee on unpaid fines or penalties when outside attorneys or collection agents are used. Both ordinances take effect following their passage and publication by the City Council on August 4th.
