Mendota Man Arrested After Foot Chase and Gun Recovery

MENDOTA — A 23-year-old Mendota man was arrested Friday after police said he fled officers on foot and was later found with a loaded firearm. The Mendota Police Department said officers saw Rodney C. Rowe allegedly riding an off-road motorcycle on city streets around 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and knew his Illinois driver’s license was suspended. Police said Rowe ran after officers told him he was under arrest and dropped a black bag during the chase. Officers caught him a short distance away and said he reportedly resisted arrest and bit an officer on the arm. Police later recovered the bag and found a loaded firearm inside. Rowe was taken to the LaSalle County Jail and charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer, driving while license suspended, unlawful use of a weapon, no valid registration, no valid insurance, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, and unlawful possession of cannabis. Additional charges are pending review by the LaSalle County State’s Attorney’s Office.
