ROCHELLE — Local law enforcement will join police agencies across Illinois for the “Click It or Ticket” campaign from May 15 through May 26 during the Memorial Day travel period. Lt. Ryan Pettengell of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said drivers and passengers should wear seat belts on every trip as officers increase patrols and focus on seat belt violations during the day and at night. Police said motorists who are not wearing seat belts can expect to be stopped and ticketed. Illinois law requires all drivers and passengers to wear seat belts. The sheriff’s office said seat belt use in Illinois reached 93% in 2025, but deaths involving people not wearing seat belts remain a concern, especially during nighttime crashes. The enforcement campaign is funded through federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
