ROCHELLE — The Rochelle City Council is considering an ordinance that would make the intersection of North Main Street and Fifth Avenue a four way stop. City officials said the downtown intersection sees more than 1,600 vehicles each day and is near the Rochelle Fire Department and several municipal parking lots. Officials also said current downtown construction projects are expected to increase vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the area. City staff recommended the change after reviewing traffic conditions and federal traffic control guidelines, saying the four way stop would improve traffic flow and safety. The council could vote on the matter tonight during their regular meeting.
