Hopkins Park Pool Project Continues Toward Mid August Completion

DEKALB — Construction at the Hopkins Park Community Center and Pool is moving forward and is now projected for completion in mid August, according to the DeKalb Park District. Officials said crews have faced challenges including aging infrastructure at the site, updated design standards, state permitting requirements, and weather delays. The district said it remains focused on opening the pool as soon as possible. DeKalb Park District Executive Director Paul Zepezauer said the project has required careful coordination since the Board of Commissioners approved the concept plan in September 2024. He said the Illinois Department of Public Health permitting process took about 10 months and winter and spring weather also slowed progress. Zepezauer said crews will continue working to recover time where possible and may consider extending the pool season if conditions allow.
