SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Public Health has declared the recent measles outbreak in Southern Illinois over, with no new cases reported since May 22. Eight related cases were identified in the region, along with two unrelated cases in Cook County. Health officials acted quickly to contain the spread through testing, quarantine, vaccine clinics, and public outreach. The department continues to urge residents to stay up to date on the MMR vaccine as national measles cases rise and vaccination rates decline.
