Rochelle City Council Approves Amended Power Purchase Agreement With NextEra Energy Marketing

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle City Council approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to execute an amended power purchase agreement with NextEra Energy Marketing LLC that extends the city’s wholesale power supply contract through Dec. 31, 2034 and updates the total contract quantity to 338,720 megawatt hours. City staff said the amendment also establishes a pricing structure for delivery periods beginning June 1, 2026. Officials said the agreement supports a long term energy strategy by maintaining a mix of contracted and market based power while reducing exposure to price changes and supporting reliable service. The extension would not exceed a cost of 4.6 cents per Kw hour, an amount that Electric Superintendent Blake Toliver said the city could absorb without passing a rate increase to residents.
