POLO – The City of Polo will not have to look for a way to replace around $25,000 in tax revenue next year. On Monday night they passed legislation that will enact a local 1% grocery sales tax to replace a state tax that will be sunsetting at the end of the year.
Polo Mayor Mark Scholl said he is sure the city is making the right move.
“Last I heard there were well over 200 municipalities that have already passed that and I would expect there’s going to be a majority of them that are going to pass them over the next few months,” he noted.
Scholl emphasized that this new policy will not raise grocery prices, it just replaces an existing tax consumers are paying now.
