Flagg Township Museum To Host Penny Celebration Event

ROCHELLE — The Flagg Township Museum will host a penny themed event Sunday, April 12 from 1 to 4 p.m. to mark the end of production of the United States penny and celebrate its role in everyday life since it was first minted in 1793. The event will include activities such as searching for a birth year penny and attaching it to a memory card, writing short poems inspired by the coin, and enjoying penny candy that reflects a time when sweets cost one cent, with organizers encouraging visitors to reflect on the history and meaning of the penny and its place in American culture.
