SOMONAUK — Two women were rescued from a house fire early Saturday morning in Somonauk and one suffered life threatening injuries. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded at 6:44 a.m. to a 911 call reporting a kitchen fire at a home in the 200 block of South Depot Street. The Somonauk Fire Department and other local fire agencies responded and found the residence filled with heavy smoke. Two women, including one elderly woman, were removed from the home and taken to Northwestern Medicine Valley West Hospital in Sandwich. Authorities say the younger woman suffered major life threatening injuries from smoke inhalation. Multiple small pets and animals were found dead inside the residence due to smoke inhalation.
