Student Groups Lead Fundraising For NIU Polar Plunge

DEKALB — NIU students and local residents are preparing for the Saturday Polar Plunge at Huskie Stadium to benefit Special Olympics Illinois, with participants required to raise at least $100 to enter the water at noon. The fundraiser is part of the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run and supports local and state competitions for athletes with intellectual disabilities. Region A Director Katie Risley said, “The students at NIU have really taken ownership of this Polar Plunge,” and added, “They have promoted it. They’ve made it their own. They’ve gotten people involved.”
