Ogle County Launches Free Battery Recycling Program

OREGON  — Battery recycling is now required by law in Illinois, and Ogle County residents can safely dispose of batteries through a new program by the Solid Waste Management Department in partnership with the Battery Network. The program, free for residents and the county, accepts lithium-ion, alkaline, nickel-metal hydride, nickel-cadmium, button, sealed lead acid, primary, and mid-format batteries but not car or marine batteries. Staff have completed training and will use fire retardant shipping drums and smaller containers for damaged or recalled batteries. Collection will take place Friday, January 30, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 909 Pines Road in Oregon, and starting Tuesday, February 17, 2026, batteries can be dropped off weekdays at the department office during the same hours. More information is available by calling 815-732-4020 or visiting the Ogle County website.
