Lee County Residents Warned About Warrant Scam Calls

DIXON — Authorities are warning residents about phone calls from individuals claiming there is a warrant for their arrest and that a “gag order” is in place. The callers try to keep people on the line while gathering personal information and may instruct them to report to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office or their local police department. The sheriff’s office says these calls are a scam and that law enforcement will never call to notify someone of a warrant, request personal information, or collect payment over the phone. Anyone receiving such a call should hang up immediately and report it to their local law enforcement agency.
