SPRINGFIELD — Deputy Christina Musil of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office was posthumously awarded the Illinois Law Enforcement Medal of Honor by Governor JB Pritzker during a ceremony in Springfield recognizing officers for acts of bravery. Musil, 35, was killed in March of 2024 when her parked patrol vehicle was struck by a truck. Also honored were DeKalb Police Chief David Byrd, Officer Brian Bollow, and Sergeant Keunte Mallett. The ceremony recognized 23 officers from 10 agencies across Illinois for heroic actions or sacrifice in the line of duty.
