Cooler Weather Slows Corn and Soybean Progress in Illinois

SPRINGFIELD – Cool and wet weather limited fieldwork across Illinois during the week ending May 25, with only four days suitable for work. Corn planting reached 82 percent, slightly behind the five-year average, while emergence stayed near normal. Soybean planting matched the typical pace at 75 percent, and emergence moved ahead of average. Conditions for both crops were mostly good, with corn showing stronger ratings than soybeans. Soil moisture remained generally favorable despite higher-than-normal rainfall and below-average temperatures.
