(Chicago, IL) — The Cubs opened their series against the Marlins with a 5-2 victory at Wrigley Field.
Dansby Swanson and Seiya Suzuki each hit two-run home runs in the fifth inning to lead Chicago’s attack. Kyle Tucker drove in the Cubs’ other run with a triple as part of the five-run fifth.
Derek Hill drove in the Marlins’ two runs with a homer in the seventh inning in the losing effort.
Colin Rea improved to 3-and-0 on the season after allowing two runs in six-and-two-third innings.
Miami’s Cal Quantrill ceded three runs in four-and-a-third innings to get the loss.
Chicago is 24-and-18 and leads the NL Central, while the Marlins have lost four of five games to sit at 15-and-25.
Game 2 in the series is Tuesday night in Chicago.
