Illinois Launches Campaign to Combat Rise in Hate Crimes

CHICAGO — In response to a 125% rise in hate crimes since 2021, Illinois officials are urging residents to report hate incidents through a confidential service at ILStopHate.org or by calling 877-458-HATE. Most reported incidents are based on race, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity. The Illinois Department of Human Rights and the Illinois Commission on Discrimination and Hate Crimes have launched a multilingual outreach campaign and are working with local governments to raise awareness. The service offers anonymous reporting, support resources, and connects individuals with legal and social services.
