Cold Blast, Weekend Snow Ahead Of Holiday Travel

CHICAGO –  Holiday travel is set to experience intense weather over the next 24 hours.  The National Weather Service reports strong winds up to 50 miles per hour and scattered flurries are expected today.  Thanksgiving Day looks to stay cold and blustery with morning wind chills predicted to be in the teens and highs near freezing.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Matt Friedlein said predicting snow amounts is very difficult.

“ Often the timing of the snow and how heavy it falls along with whether it’s accompanied by wind and cold temperatures really dictate the impacts on travel and what people experience. Of note with this is the colder weather. Coming in here this morning, we can all feel it. And so conditions will be cold enough for the snow to accumulate on Saturday and it looks like it could last a while or have a couple waves, from late Friday night through Saturday evening.”

Experts say the storms could bring between three-to-six inches of snow.
