Winnebago Co Jail Inmate Charged With Attacking Correctional Officer

ROCKFORD –  A Winnebago County Jail inmate is accused of attacking a correctional officer over the weekend.  Authorities say George Elie repeatedly hit the officer and slammed him onto a desk and the floor while in the jail on Sunday.  Another inmate intervened and helped stop the attack.  Elie is now charged with attempted murder, Aggravated Battery to a Correctional Institution Employee and Criminal Damage to Government-Supported Property.
