Byron Council Moves Forward with $27 Million Wastewater Plant Project

BYRON — The Byron City Council approved sending the city’s Wastewater Treatment Plant project out for bids Wednesday night, following cost estimates from Fehr Graham that placed the project just under $27 million. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has approved up to $30 million for the project. Public Works Director Aaron Vincer said the city should proceed with bidding to determine real-world costs, while City Engineer Jason Stoll cautioned that market fluctuations could affect final numbers. Additional funding could be requested from the IEPA if bids exceed estimates. Byron began evaluating the project in 2022. Bids are expected by the end of the year, with construction potentially starting in spring 2026. The facility is projected to take about two years to build, with full operation likely within three.
