Teen Injured In Route 72 Crash

DAVIS JUNCTION — A 16-year-old from Davis Junction was injured Tuesday night after swerving to avoid a detached wheel on East Illinois Route 72. Deputies said a pickup driven by a 36-year-old Monroe Center man lost its front driver’s side wheel around 9 p.m., sending it into the path of a westbound car. The teen’s vehicle left the road, hit a fence and several trees, and came to rest in a harvested cornfield. The driver was taken to OSF St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford by Stillman Valley EMS. Both vehicles were towed, and no citations were issued.
