USDA Reports Corn and Soybean Harvest Progress in Illinois

SPRINGFIELD  — Illinois farmers reported 21 percent of corn and soybeans harvested as of the end of September, according to the latest USDA crop progress report. Corn maturity reached 85 percent in the state, above the five-year average of 77 percent. Soybeans dropping leaves stood at 89 percent, also ahead of the average. Winter wheat planting in Illinois reached 12 percent, slightly above normal. Crop conditions showed 46 percent of corn and 42 percent of soybeans rated good, with dry weather reflected in topsoil and subsoil moisture levels, where most acres were short or very short.
