National Fire Prevention Week 2025 Highlights Lithium-Ion Battery Safety

SPRINGFIELD  — The focus of National Fire Prevention Week, set for October 5th through the 11th, will be on lithium-ion battery safety in homes, as these rechargeable batteries power many common devices such as smartphones, laptops, power tools, and e-cigarettes. With fire risks linked to improper charging, damage, or incompatible equipment, the campaign encourages safe purchasing, charging, and recycling practices to help reduce home fires. Officials urge residents to use batteries listed by nationally recognized testing labs, avoid overcharging, watch for damage signs, and rely on qualified professionals for repairs.
