ROCHELLE — The Rochelle City Council approved continuing emergency expenditures Monday for the cleanup of mineral oil–contaminated soil near Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District’s Spring Lake Pool. The contamination resulted from a utility pole incident on June 5, 2025. Soil tests confirmed residual mineral oil, and the city will contract Clean Harbors for excavation and disposal at a cost of $73,937.03. Electric Operations is also partnering with Fast Forward to inspect utility poles and lines to prevent future incidents.
