DEKALB — The DeKalb City Council approved a resolution Monday night authorizing an intergovernmental agreement with Northern Illinois University for shared police protection services. The agreement, in place since 2014 and now updated, allows NIU officers to enforce laws in a designated city patrol area and handle any arrests or investigations resulting from their actions. In emergencies, city officers may assist on campus. No compensation is involved; the arrangement emphasizes cooperation between the two police departments. The measure passed unanimously.
