September Recognized as National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

CHICAGO — September is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, highlighting the deadliest gynecologic cancer in the United States. Ovarian cancer affects the ovaries, small organs that produce eggs and hormones, and can cause symptoms such as pelvic pain, bloating, stomach or back discomfort, changes in bathroom habits, and feeling full quickly. Risk factors include age, family history, being overweight, infertility, and prior cancers. While there is no known prevention, healthy lifestyle choices, regular exercise, a balanced diet, and consultation with a healthcare provider can help manage risk. More information is available through the CDC.
