Illinois Farm Safety Week Highlights Health and Wellness

SPRINGFIELD — Illinois officials are focusing on farmer health and wellness during Farm Safety and Health Week, now in its 80th year. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that agriculture is the most dangerous sector in the nation, with more than 500 fatalities each year. State leaders say the physical and mental demands of farming often overshadow personal well-being, which is equally critical to long-term success. Governor JB Pritzker has proclaimed this week as Farm Safety and Health Week to emphasize workplace safety and promote awareness of risks facing farmers and agribusiness workers.

Daily themes include:

  • Monday: Equipment and Rural Roadway Safety
  • Tuesday: Health and Wellness
  • Wednesday: Generations of Farming
  • Thursday: Confined Spaces
  • Friday: ATV/UTV
