SPRINGFIELD — Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias said Friday his office uncovered that the Forest Park Police Department gave U.S. Customs and Border Protection access to its license plate reader data in violation of state law. The finding, part of an ongoing audit of automated license plate reader systems, marks the second recent discovery of federal access after a similar issue with Flock Safety cameras. Giannoulias said Motorola Solutions has since worked with Forest Park to disable the data sharing, and his office will continue auditing to protect residents’ privacy.
