SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has opened applications for more than $40 million in grants to help small and disadvantaged communities address emerging contaminants in drinking water, including PFAS and manganese. The program will fund design and construction projects on the agency’s intended funding lists for fiscal years 2025 and 2026, with awards capped at $15 million per applicant. Eligible costs include engineering and construction expenses incurred after January 1, 2025, and applications will be accepted through August 31, 2026.
