CRESTON – Village trustees approved an agreement after three and a half years of negotiations involving farmland near the Rochelle Landfill, hopefully finalizing the sale within 30 days. The deal covers about 111 acres currently being farmed under a lease at $250 per acre. Future improvements in place as part of the agreement include reshaping some of the berms, removal of a roadway and gradual use of dirt stockpiles for landfill cover. The plan also calls for removing fencing and trees outside of wetlands while keeping the property available for agricultural use until the landfill’s closure. The Rochelle Landfill is slated to close in 2040.
