Third Fatal Crash in Two Months at Rural Compton Intersection

COMPTON – A North Aurora man died Aug. 9 after a motorcycle crash at Illinois Route 251 and Chicago Road in rural Compton, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies said Alan P. Klimas, 67, was riding south with a group of motorcycles when they approached the intersection on wet pavement and realized late they needed to turn left. Klimas allegedly laid the motorcycle down, suffered major injuries, and was pronounced dead at OSF Saint Paul Medical Center in Mendota. The Compton and Paw Paw fire departments and the LaSalle County Coroner’s Office assisted. Authorities said the intersection has seen three fatalities in the past two months, including a June 9 crash that killed Chasity J. Stavenhagen, 16, of Earlville, and Kevin Kain, 20, of West Brooklyn, and a July 3 crash that injured Robert Park, 42, of Sycamore.
