Training Camp Continues For NIU Football

NIU Head Coach Thomas Hammock

Progress continues to be made for the NIU Huskies at training camp in DeKalb as they prepare for the 2025 football season.

Thomas Hammock begins his 7th season as head coach at NIU. The Huskies are coming off a 2024 season at (8-5) which included a win over Notre Dame and a Bowl victory against Fresno State.

NIU returns only 5 starters from a year ago.

Hammock said that he has a hard working team this season and believes they are going to be better than what many people think.

He said they have built this team to be competitive with changes in the offense and defense, the development of players and practices.

Hammock said that with so many new players on the field, they will go week by week and be steady when building this team.

NIU opens up the season on August 30th with a home game against Holy Cross.

They also have road games against Maryland and Mississippi State.

This will also be NIU’s last season in the MAC before they join the Mountain West Conference.
