SPRINGFIELD — Bipartisan legislation to improve security at libraries and protect librarians has been signed into law. The measure, drafted by Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, lets state library grants pay for upgrades like security cameras, silent alarms and checkpoints. It takes effect Jan. 1, 2026, and follows more than 25 bomb threats to Illinois libraries in the past two years.
