Illinois SNAP Enrollment Falls 16 Percent After New Federal Requirements 

CHICAGO – One year after President Donald Trump’s administration and Congress changed requirements for participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the Illinois Department of Human Services reported enrollment numbers 16% lower year-over-year. The June data revealed about 1.6 million Illinoisans were enrolled in the food benefits program, down from nearly 1.9 million in the previous year. The program had new work requirements imposed on different groups of enrollees in April and May.
