Illinois Corn and Soybean Crops Show Strong Progress Amid Adequate Moisture

SPRINGFIELD – Illinois farmers reported 96% of corn silking complete and 53% of corn in the dough stage as of August 3, 2025, exceeding the national average for 18 key states. Corn condition was mostly good to excellent, with 69% rated in those categories. Soybeans blooming reached 88%, and 66% were setting pods, both above the multi-year averages. Farmers reported nearly five days suitable for fieldwork last week. Soil moisture levels remained adequate, with 66% of topsoil and subsoil moisture rated sufficient, though 4% of topsoil and 6% of subsoil were very short. These conditions support continued crop development across the state.
