ComEd Relief Fund Closes After High Demand Exhausts $10 Million Allocation

CHICAGO — Commonwealth Edison has closed applications for its $10 million customer relief fund after overwhelming demand quickly depleted the available funds. The program, announced in June and launched in early July, provided one-time grants to income-qualified customers and nonprofits struggling with past-due balances following a 45 percent electricity price increase. ComEd said those who already applied will be contacted after their applications are reviewed. The fund was supported by Exelon shareholders and distributed through the Salvation Army and Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago.
