MT. MORRIS — The village of Mt. Morris holds its annual National Straw Sculpting Competition starting Friday. Known as Strawfest, the three-week event showcases large, creative straw sculptures on the village square, along with food trucks. Jeff Bold with Encore Mt. Morris said plenty of work goes into these amazing works of art.
“Some people look at them. They go, how do you sculpt that? And the reality is there’s a framework underneath, you know, most of them have wood and chicken wire and maybe some styrofoam and whatever it takes to put it together.”
The festival culminates on Strawfest Day, Saturday, August 23, with awards, games, and a final evening concert.
