Work Resumes on I-39 and Illinois 38 Interchange in Rochelle

ROCHELLE — Work has resumed this week on the reconstruction of the Interstate 39 and Illinois 38 interchange in Rochelle. The $23.9 million project will convert the existing diamond interchange into a diverging diamond design, repair the Illinois 38 bridge over I-39, improve the Illinois 38 and Dement Road intersection, install new lighting and traffic signals, and add a multiuse path across I-39. Initial work includes installing protective shielding on the bridge, with nightly lane closures on I-39 and Illinois 38 expected to last up to two weeks. One lane in each direction will be maintained at all times, and the project is scheduled for completion by June 2027.
