BYRON — Two outage workers were taken to area hospitals Thursday morning as a precaution after exposure to trace amounts of a non-radiological chemical at the Byron Nuclear Power Plant. Facility owner Constellation Energy said the chemical was connected to a release from a holding tank during an incident earlier in the week. The exposure occurred in the turbine building, and specialized teams are working to remove remaining traces before work resumes. The incident follows a similar event on March 10 when eight workers were transported to local hospitals as a precaution after a chemical exposure at the facility. Officials said the health and safety of workers and the surrounding community remain the top priority.
