Three Arrested After Traffic Assist In Rural Lee County

AMBOY — Three men were arrested after a Lee County deputy stopped to assist a disabled vehicle Friday evening near U.S. Route 30 and Inlet Road in rural Amboy. The deputy observed items used to ingest narcotics in plain view. An investigation followed. Ruben Perez, 48, of Dothan, Alabama, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, unlawful possession of an explosive device, unlawful possession of ammunition by a felon, unlawful possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and a nationwide larceny warrant out of Alabama. Dennis L. Weaver, 52, of Cairo, Georgia, was charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Michael T. Whigham, 56, of Cairo, Georgia, was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Perez is being held in the Lee County Jail pending his first court appearance under the Illinois SAFE T Act. Weaver and Whigham were released with notices to appear. The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad assisted at the scene.
