ROCHELLE – Experts warn that severe weather will move through Northern Illinois from late this afternoon into night. Matt Friedlein of the National Weather Service explains.
“ Likely thunderstorms and the potential for severe thunderstorms as well, the high in Bloomington normal 80 degrees, the high in Rockford, only around 50 degrees, so that sets the stage for a breeding ground for potentially some long lived thunderstorms capable of, especially hail, but also some that will have that potential to rotate and bring a tornado threat,” he said.
Torrential rainfall could also cause flash flooding on local roads and in basements as the system moves east. Officials recommend that residents maintain multiple ways to receive emergency alerts.
