ROCKFORD — A 54-year-old Rockford man has been sentenced to six years and three months in federal prison for possessing child pornography. Stephen Canfield was convicted by a jury last year on two counts of possession of child pornography. Evidence at trial showed Canfield knowingly possessed images on his cell phone and in a Dropbox account, which was identified after a cyber tip to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney Andrew S. Boutros and Homeland Security Special Agent Matthew Scarpino. The case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a federal initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
