CHICAGO — Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul joined a coalition of seven other state attorneys general in filing an emergency motion seeking to block the proposed merger between Nexstar Media Group Inc and Tegna Inc, a deal that officials said would create the largest broadcast station group in the United States. The motion asks the court for a temporary restraining order after the merger received approval from federal regulators, and follows a lawsuit filed to stop the deal over concerns it would reduce competition, raise costs, and cut local newsroom jobs. Raoul said the merger would concentrate control of local news and sports content and could harm consumers by increasing prices and limiting independent voices in media, while the states involved in the case are California, Colorado, Connecticut, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, and Virginia.
