OREGON — The city of Oregon has proclaimed April 2026 as Child Abuse Awareness Month to promote prevention efforts and support for children and families in the region. Officials said the observance will focus on the importance of safe and stable relationships, the long term effects of childhood trauma, and the role of economic and social support systems in preventing abuse and neglect. Community partners including Shining Star Children’s Advocacy Center and Court Appointed Special Advocates are planning awareness events, including a Hands Around the City gathering in Rochelle on April 17 and a fundraiser in Oregon on May 21 at Riverside. Oregon Mayor Ken Williams read a proclamation at the city council meeting last month.
“We urge all citizens to recognize this month by building a narrative of hope for children and families through collaboration and the creation of an ecosystem of primary prevention,” he said.
