Oregon Discusses New “Main Street” Position to Drive Growth

OREGON – With 28 new businesses in town since 2015 and a 61% increase in sales tax revenue over the last decade, Oregon city leaders are looking to hire a full-time Main Street Director. City Manager Darin DeHaan proposed the role last week to fill the gap left by the former Chamber of Commerce, focusing on business retention and organizing downtown “pop-up” events. The city currently boasts 138 brick-and-mortar businesses, and officials believe the new position can be funded using existing revenue and money previously allocated to the Chamber.
