Oregon City Council Reviews Video Gaming Regulations

OREGON — The Oregon City Council discussed updates to local video gaming rules Tuesday night, considering definitions for licensed establishments including fraternal, veterans, truck stop, and large truck stop locations. The proposed ordinance would set licensing requirements, application procedures, fees, and limits on the number of video gaming terminals per location. It would allow the mayor to revoke or suspend licenses for violations, seize unauthorized devices, and restrict the total number of establishments operating video gaming terminals in the city.

Mayor Ken Williams said they would be looking for input “We really would like to have something where we give a public hearing and you folks could show up and all the people could show up with their concerns and we can all hash them out,” he said.

The changes are intended to regulate gaming activity under the Illinois Video Gaming Act and state liquor laws, restrict operations in residential areas, and set caps on gaming revenue. Council members reviewed recent revenue from video gaming, which increased from $184,700 in 2024 to $223,000 in 2025.
