One Person is Dead Following a Rockford House Fire

One person is dead following a house fire Monday morning in Rockford. The Rockford Fire Department reports that crews responded to the blaze just after 6 Monday morning, and reported heavy smoke coming from the home in the 3900 block of Preston Street. Fire officials say residents inside the home were alerted by a smoke detector.  More than 30 firefighters, a chaplain, several investigators, building department and the Winnebago County Housing Authority were called to the scene.  Three residents are being helped by family and Red Cross.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
