ROCHELLE — One person was injured during a Sunday afternoon house fire in Rochelle. Just after 1 p.m., the Rochelle Fire Department was called to the 1000 block of Ninth Street for a reported attic fire. Rochelle Police arrived first and located one injured resident, who was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. Fire Captain Zach Prewett said the home was single-occupancy and a neighbor called 911. The fire originated in a second-floor bedroom, with fire and smoke damage extending through the second floor and attic, and smoke and water damage impacting the first floor. The structure was deemed not habitable, and the lone resident is making other living arrangements. Mutual aid was provided by the Lee-Ogle Fire Protection District, DeKalb Fire Department, Stillman Valley Fire Protection District, Ashton Fire Protection District, and the Lynn-Scott-Rock Fire Protection District. Crews were on scene for approximately two-and-a-half hours. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
