ROCHELLE - Area farmers have been busy, and although brief rains may have delayed some, plenty of progress across the state was noted this past week by the USDA. Illinois shows around 25% of the corn crop planted, on pace with the yearly average. Soybeans are at 26% planted, ahead of the average of around 18% this time of year. The winter wheat report noted that 87% of the crop is in good to excellent condition. Farmers in Lee and DeKalb County report that soil moisture is 40% to 60% higher than normal, according to data released on Sunday.
