Law Enforcement Warns of Computer Virus Scam

EUREKA - Law enforcement is warning of a new financial scam involving a fake warning of a computer virus on the users computer. The scam starts with a pop-up notification saying that immediate action is required to address the virus. The scammer will present a link through the pop-up, which allows the scammer to remote access into the victim’s computer to fix the problem. However, instead of fixing the issue, the scammer now has control of the victim’s computer and all the information contained within, possibly including banking and other sensitive documents. The scammer will then claim that their financial institution is under federal investigation, and that the victim must withdraw all their funds at once. The scam can go as far as sending someone to the victims home to collect the cash for safekeeping. Law enforcement urges you to always be skeptical of anyone who contacts you about money or your personal finances.
